The Genesis of LAWASSA-LMS
The inception of LAWASSA-LMS was not the result of a conventional business plan; rather, it emerged from a deeply personal and professional necessity—an inward reflection on “what next” after more than three and a half decades of diversified consultancy experience. For professionals like myself, often described—perhaps accurately—as workaholics, the daily discipline of problem-solving, critical analysis, and innovation in pursuit of sustainable solutions is not merely an occupation but a way of life. To disengage abruptly from this intellectual rhythm is neither practical nor desirable. LAWASSA-LMS was born from this very realization: that professional experience, once accumulated, must evolve into structured knowledge-sharing rather than fade into passive retirement.
This reflective journey began in 2020, when I was 55 years old, at the height of the global COVID-19 crisis. Classified as a high-risk individual due to diabetes, I was confined to a single room for nearly six months as a precautionary measure. This period of isolation—though physically restrictive—proved to be intellectually expansive. My days were spent attending webinars, participating in global virtual discussions, watching analytical programming, and, most importantly, undertaking professional certification courses. Since 2012, I had already completed close to 125 online certificate programs, most requiring a minimum of 80 percent passing marks, offered by globally reputed institutions such as the United Nations, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, World Health Organization, and International Monetary Fund, among others.
This immersive engagement served a dual purpose. It provided intellectual continuity during an uncertain global phase and, more significantly, answered two fundamental questions that had been quietly forming over time: What should one pursue after attaining the conventional retirement age of 60? And how can one remain professionally relevant, intellectually active, and socially contributive beyond formal consultancy roles? The answers converged on a single insight—knowledge, when systematically curated and ethically transmitted, becomes a powerful instrument of sustainability.
A Professional Journey That Shaped the Vision
Over the course of 35 years, my professional journey encompassed the successful completion of more than 350 projects across a wide range of development sectors, including public health, environmental impact assessment (EIA), environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate environmental responsibility (CER), disaster management, urban and regional planning, and the development of MIS and GIS systems. These assignments were undertaken in collaboration with eminent national and international institutions such as the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), Policy Finance Initiative (PFI), Gujarat State Institute of Disaster Management (GSIDM), Yojana Bhavan (Uttar Pradesh), and multilateral agencies including the Asian Development Bank, among others.
Such extensive professional exposure inevitably brings with it a responsibility—to distill experience into insight, and insight into accessible knowledge for future generations. The realization was clear: the time had come to transition from practice-intensive consultancy to purpose-driven knowledge dissemination. This transition, however, needed to be undertaken without compromising the integrity of natural resources, social equity, or institutional ethics. In essence, it required a platform where knowledge itself would be aligned with sustainability. This conviction became the philosophical foundation of LAWASSA-LMS.
From Concept to Creation
The transformation of this vision into a functional learning management system was neither immediate nor effortless. From 2023 onward, nearly three years were dedicated to understanding online education technologies, artificial intelligence applications, digital pedagogy, and professional-grade audio and video production. This phase involved intensive self-learning, experimentation, and capacity building to ensure that the platform would meet international standards of digital education delivery.
From 2024 onward, the focus shifted decisively toward content development. Each course was conceptualized and designed following rigorous research, professional validation, and alignment with real-world applications. Unlike conventional academic offerings, these courses were structured to reflect field-based realities, policy frameworks, and implementation challenges drawn from decades of professional experience. After this extended gestation period, LAWASSA-LMS was formally launched on 1st January 2026, marking the culmination of a deeply personal yet globally relevant journey. In collaboration with the DRHS YouTube channel.
How LAWASSA-LMS Is Distinctive
LAWASSA-LMS distinguishes itself through a principled and structured alignment with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the Indian context, where NITI Aayog has actively championed SDG integration since 2015, this alignment serves as a robust quality control framework ensuring academic rigor, policy relevance, and ethical coherence. Every online certificate course offered through LAWASSA-LMS is mapped to one or more SDGs as a primary classification and further organized into thematic subcategories based on subject matter.
This approach ensures that the learning content is neither theoretical nor “bookish.” Instead, it reflects professional depth, experiential learning, and practical insights accumulated over years of field engagement. The courses are organized into five progressive professional learning groups—Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, Master, and Professional Certification levels—allowing learners to advance systematically based on their prior knowledge and career objectives.
Furthermore, LAWASSA-LMS is actively pursuing affiliations and accreditations relevant to each course domain, while maintaining a reasonable and inclusive fee structure. Provisions have also been made for interactive online webinars, enabling real-time engagement, discussion, and professional networking.
Who Benefits from LAWASSA-LMS
LAWASSA-LMS is designed to serve a diverse and inclusive learning community. National and international students, early-career professionals, mid-level practitioners, and lifelong learners can all benefit from exposure to emerging concepts and applied knowledge that directly enhance their professional journeys. The platform bridges the gap between academic understanding and field-level application, equipping learners with competencies that are both relevant and future-ready.
Equally important, LAWASSA-LMS provides a dedicated digital platform for highly experienced national and international professionals—those with a minimum of ten years of substantive, field-based experience—to contribute as faculty members. These experts, drawn from varied domains of development programs and policy implementation, are encouraged to share non-bookish, innovation-driven insights with the next generation. This creates a dynamic ecosystem where experience is not lost to retirement but transformed into mentorship, guidance, and applied learning.
Through this dual focus—empowering learners and amplifying expert voices—LAWASSA-LMS aspires to become a living knowledge ecosystem rather than a static learning portal.
An Invitation to Engage
LAWASSA-LMS stands as a testament to the belief that professional experience, when thoughtfully curated and responsibly shared, can shape a more sustainable and equitable future. It is an invitation to learners and experts alike to engage in meaningful knowledge exchange grounded in real-world challenges and global development priorities.
